      Try this one http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...buy_31595.html
If the raised bed is the garden - net it!

My grandad used to use a water pistol which worked until the cats worked out its range. Peasticks help, or get a cat herself!

Chilli powder scattered on the soil seems to work to a degree. Cats groom... And thereby they soon learn that there are more pleasant places to do their business. (It also deters mice and rats but not birds who don't feel the heat)

If your niece is growing cabbages she will need to net them against the butterflies/pigeons anyway - so can keep the cats off at the same time!

Holly tree prunings work for me at the moment.
Feed the soil, not the plants.
                    (helps if you have cluckies)

I have a 'cat in a bag' toy, when pressed a recording of a tom cat fighting is played, works for me but you have to be there.

Nets definitely work, or if you have bare soil covering it with fleece stops the cat digging. Some cats dislike bits of stick poked into the ground at intervals, but the cat that lives next door to me simply digs the sticks up.

I have two cats - who like to use my raised bed as a litter tray / bed / place to fight. I net it while there's lots of bare soil on show. Once the plants are too big for the netting, the bed has filled out and they're not interested anymore.

The soil in the raised bed is lovely and soft so I dont blame them really

Nothing will deter them if the soil is freshly dug unless you use something like the prunings from rose bushes or net the whole bed. I have a cat and the minute I dig I have to cover the fresh soil.
