I want to try growing Jerusalem artichokes this year, but have been reluctant to buy them because I've only seen them sold in large (and rather expensive) packages. When I was in my local greengrocers today, I saw he was selling Jerusalem artichokes. If I planted a few of those would they grow ok?

Yes they would! They are very easy to grow but watch out because they spread very easily and can take over if you are not careful!

As Dave says above, they are relatively easy to grow, but they are invasive, so hard to get rid of. Watch out when you've eaten them as well, they're very tasty, but they have a reputation of being called "fartichokes", if you'll pardon my french!

Excellent, thank you. I'm off to the greengrocers tomorrow afternoon...
