  • How many toms are you growing?

I've cut down a lot this year as I've been ruthless with numbers...but I'm thinking I need a few more varieties- panic has suddenly set in! and I also need to sow some more for my grafting Tom experiment

What tomato varieties are you growing and how many have you got on the go?

    Gardeners Delight
    VC's Green Grape
    Green zebra
    Black Cherry
    Thelma's - Jaunne Flamme...need to check spelling!!
    Black icicle
    Sparrows -Blush
    Sparrows - Berkeley tie Dye
    Orange banana
    Black Russian
    Black and brown boar
    Latah
    Balcony Red
    mrs Rucks
    Red Siberian

    I've potted them on....I've around 100

But I've also F1 Submarine root stock
Now I need to grow a few more

What varieties are you growing and how many?

Jeez - that’s a lot of tomatoes. I was worried that I was going to overdo it with my 12 plants in total of 3 varieties.

Had 6 plants last year and we didn’t have to buy any tomatoes for about 2 months. What will you do with them all? Presume you will eat fresh but then do you bottle them? Or purée them and store them for the rest of the year?

I usually oven roast and then freeze for sauces and I also make chutney and preserves. We eat lots fresh too.
I also have two boys that consume a lot of food which helps

        Ailsa Craig
        Black Cherry
        Black Prince
        Blush
        Chadwick Cherry
        Cosmonaut Volkov
        Galina
        Indigo Cherry Drops
        Latah
        Jaune Flamme
        Moskovich
        Olena Ukrainian
        Orange Banana
        Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye
        Rosella Purple (Dwarf Tomato Project)
        Rose de Berne
        Stupice
        Tasmanian Chocolate (Dwarf Tomato Project)
        Urbikany

Will be growing one of each, except for Latah/Stupice/Urbikany where it'll be two. Have got 2 spares of each to be given away, apart from Galina whose germination rate was abysmal. Ailsa Craig and Olena Ukrainian came free with some seed orders, so I may not grow them on depending on how much space we have left!

I dehydrate mine and then soak them in olive oil as and when I need them throughout the year. Delicious.

I've currently got 12 Shirley, 2 of which were sown in January and now have developing fruit - these are providing sideshoots for potting on, and I will increase the numbers to somewhere around 20 for my friend's greenhouse.
I've also got 3 balconi red on the go and will be sowing the following very soon:
                Sungold- 5
                Ferline - 4
                Oh Happy Day - 2
                Brandy Boy - 2
Possibly also Mountain Magic - 2

I may need to lock away the seed packets of the remaining varieties that I have, as I normally grow more than this, but as I have 110 portions of tomato in the freezer from last year and I'm still eating those from 2017 (34 left!) I'm going to have to keep the numbers down. The plan is to grow just enough to eat fresh (plus plenty for my friend), otherwise they will go to waste as the freezers are full.

                  Outdoors
                  5x gardeners delight
                  5x outdoor girl
                  4x Black Cherry (2 in 2 out)
                  Indoors
                  4x White Cherry
                  3x Kenilworth King George
                  4x Blush
                  4x Orange banana
                  4x Red Buffalo Horn
I only have room for a max of 2 of each of the indoor ones, I've read that Black Cherry may be Ok outside so I will try 2 in and 2 out for that one. What about the others, do you think any of those may be Ok outside or should I use as spares to give to my allotment neighbours.

                    Gardener’s delight
                    Orange banana

                    Red cherry
                    Green grape

Got about 50 but need to bring that down to about 32. Plan is to try 20 outside and 12 in the greenhouse. Outside will try red cherry, gardener’s delight, sungold and green grape.

White Cherry could go out Mcdood.
Red buffalo horn has big toms - but they are delicious!

I've grown more than I need. Homes will be found for them
Due to my slight chilli obsession, I can't fit any more than that in
