  • how long in a propagator?

so, after my super-charged cukes were done in a few days. I am now looking forlornly at the other contents of my 'gator. two trays of nardello peppers (fresh seed this year) and one of sweet peppers (ordinary green/red/orange ones) which are last year's seeds. put them in on saturday, so they've been in there just under a week.

how long should I give them?

Until you need the prop for something else.

    Patience.

    There's a good table in http://tomclothier.hort.net/page11.html

gosh! Thanks for the table - Assuming it was an optimum temp for cucumbers (they germinated in about 3 days), then it suggests about 8 days for peppers. But if it's 9F colder, then that goes up to 13.

                  blimey!

I have no problems waiting, but I bought expensive seed (the nardellos), so if they weren't germinating I was going to Have Words with the seller.

If it's any help, my toms germinated in about 5 days. The jalapenos took about 8 days and the padron peppers took 12 days to germinate. This is in a heated propagator kept at 21*C.

I think my seeds must read this site. came home tonight to see little green loops in all three trays...

so that's 6 days in the heated propagator. fingers crossed I can get my tomatoes going next weekend

My Roma tomatoes all germinated on a windowsill, but not a one of the sungold. Can’t explain it. It’s annoying because Roma seeds as cheap as chips which can’t be said for sungold. Grrrrr
