    Hot? Not! *contains chillies

    So this year I grew jalapenos and scotch bonnet chillies. The jalapeno produce tons of fruit - the scotch bonnet not so much. What they have in common is that they are both weedy/limp/lightweight ... totally sans heat.

    I'd been advised to treat 'em mean to get some heat - as in not over-feeding or over-watering. This I did in spades. No difference.

    Any Grape chilli aficionados out there that can send help?

    Jalapenos are relatively mild anyway. The Scotch Bonnet should be hot. The ones I've grown this year tingle my hand simply picking them. Are you sure they are genuine Scotch Bonnets?

      As Jonny said, the Scotch Bonnet should definitely be hot, hot, hot!!
      If they are not, then there is something amiss...
      I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

              I grow Jalapeno's and Cayenne BECAUSE I like a mild chilli! I somehow think that some of the high decibel chilli's are pure hotness with very little flavour!

                I agree totally. I prefer a chilli taste over chewing flames any day.

                  Gawd but I really have issues with storing and loading pictures! Why is something that should be so easy happen to be so annoying

                      the one on the left looks like a friers hat to me ,the scotch bonnets ive seen are more round and pitted ,cheers

                        That was my first thought too; not quite the exact correct shape of a Scotch Bonnet as I know them...
                        but then again not a million miles away

                        Bottom line though is Scotch Bonnet are hot....So if they are not, they are not Scotch Bonnet and may be some sort of cross ??

                          as the one on the left is still abit green maybe they havent had time to fully ripen and build up the heat inside them ? (they can take up to 9 months to fully ripen from seed ) but i would have thought you`d be getting some heat from them as they have a schoville rating of about 1 million ,cheers

                            I have some like that and they are bishop's hats, which are Capsicum baccatum, not Scotch bonnets. which are Capsicum chinense. Have you any photos of the flowers, because they look different in the two species.
