    Horta

    Reading a thread about 'Collards' and Brassica medullosa, which I had never heard of, but would love to try, got me thinking about the greens called Horta that you get in Greece. They are fab with olive oil and lemon juice
    Rather like spinach, but keep their texture better when cooked.
    Has anyone grown Horta successfully in our climate? Where can you get seeds from?

    Horta is usually made up from a few different types of leaves or at least the proper stuff they collect in the villages from the hills and fields is, one of them being dandelion leaves although I cant see the allotment committee looking kindly on a plot covered with dandelions..lol

    It may be that if you had it in a restaurant it was some form of spinach or such like.

    I love the country and lived there for 7 years stopped with family as my mum is greek.

      I quite often buy those bags of mixed leaves from morrisons with spinach, rocket etc in it and boil that litely then drian, salt fresh ground pepper virgin olive oil and fresh lemon juice.

            Thanks for the answers Crichmond. I had no idea they were a variety of greens.
            It was Crete where I had them. I love Crete and its people. A beautiful island and a real place (as opposed to the tourism constructs you find on some of the other Greek islands).
            Back to the point I will try to gather a combo of the chard, perpetual spinach, rocket and sorrel i have on the plot and see how it turns out
