I have got myself some comfrey plants to plant on my allotment and not sure if to plant it in the ground or large tubs.

The are big plants that have hugely deep tap roots - if you put them in a container make it a very deep, big one. Best in the ground I think.

Do you know what particular Comfrey it is? There are a number of varieties. Russian Bocking 14 is a good and non-invasive type which does not seed. Most suppliers sell it - or get some a friend to divide a plant for you.History teaches us that history teaches us nothing. - HegelComment

I was told many years ago that comfrey roots up to 6 feet deep so definitely plant in the ground

The reason why comfrey leaves make such agood fertiliser is because they pull nutrients and moisture from deep in the subsoil which are not accessable to other plants.
By growing in pots you are defeating the object of the exercise methinks!

I managed to plant the comfrey near to where I’m going to build a compost bin on the allotment. planted in the ground.
It turned out to be a nice sunny afternoon when the rain did decide to stop.
I have not got a clue what particular Comfrey it is, I dug up a few clumps with good roots from my friend’s garden last week.Originally posted by oldie View Post
