    Has anyone stained/painted their raised beds?

    I would like to stain the scaffolding boards that I am going to use for edging my vegetable beds. I have some green cuprinol paint which claims to be safe for plants but I don't think that covers growing plants to eat.

    What do you think?

    Yes I did my raised beds last week with a stained wood protector, it makes them look nice and tidy and also gives it that bit more protection against the weather.
    I have just built some new raised beds to put in my veg plot & look really neat & tidy stained.

      you can stain your boards we did ours in a cuprinol green water based paint/stain its plant friendly most diy stores have it.

        I haven't thus far but have done in my chum's potager at the chateau where he's the gardener. They look so spiffy, I'm going to do all the boards for the 6 new raised beds here.

        But, I make boxes in which I grow climbing fruit bushes and they're all stained, Cuprinol or B&Q green, they look good and it protects them when I'm whizzing round with the strimmer.

          I thought some of these timbers come already treated when you buy them. We haven't treated ours as my DH has assured me that we don't need to.
          Besides, the planks used to make the raised beds are quite thick.

            yes cuprinol is perfect for planks ive done mine. you will have to give them at least 2 coats a year as they fade.

              We've used the Ronseal equivalent of the Cuprinol. We did this last spring and have been eating salad crops from our small raised beds ever since. All I can say is we're still alive
              Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

                How do you explain your second head?

                I used the same paint/treatment on my posts last year and everything seems fine around them.

                  We painted ours with the cuprinol green when we built the potager - about 3 years ago. The timber was treated allegedly but the result is really pleasant. I like it anyway.

                        did my shed in the cuprinol green and the beds to match oh how sad i'll be putting curtains up in the shed next
                        is spacetime curved or was einstien round the bend

                          Get the curtains up Starwatcher! I've got a net curtain over my shed window - stops people from looking in to see what there is to pinch!
                          I really need to re-waterproof my shed, is the Cuprinol a good choice? I did it with DIY store own-brand stuff last year (May) & it's rubbish, coming off already & letting rain through

                            Did it already have some stain or presevative on before you painted it, if it did thats probably why the stuff you put on is coming off. if that is the case you will need to get sanding before you recoat.

                              We like 'Ducksback' on our shed (can't think who makes it though - might be Cuprinol or Ronseal - one of the 'big boys' anyway). We painted our shed two or three years ago, and its only needed a bit of a touch up in places since then. Leaves more time for gardening!
