    growing onions question.

    Does everyone bury their onions like it suggests on the label or do you sit them very shallowly on the top of the earth?

    I always bury mine but when I look at other peoples, theirs always seem to grow just on the top where you can see the whole of the onion.

    I bury them all but the tip, but they seem to work their way up and out as they grow

        I bury mine as well with just the tip pointing out. Worked ok last year.
        LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

          I too bury mine ...... they then seem to grow themselves up and out of the ground as they mature, so they look like they've only been planted shallowly. Done very well for me to date!

            I bury mine too - and cover them with fleece to stop the cat digging them up or the birds pulling them out of the soil.
