  • Garlic rust and odd shapes and sizes

I know garlic comes in all shapes and sizes, I've lifted my bulbs and come across some with a neck of tiny garlic cloves growing above the main bulb, the bulb on these are tiny. Also have some nice large sized bulbs with cloves growing on the outside, outside the papery layer. Do we know what could be the cause of both of these?

Finally my first lot of garlic has succumbed to rust. I take it I shouldn't be saving any of these for replanting next year?

Hope my shallots do not succumb to rust, and not sure where to plant out my leeks now as I don't want them to rust over!

    Thanks

Hi my garlic crop is covered in rust however I dug one up and the bulb although not yet fully grown was prefect and grilled on my Barrie was fantabulous.

Gonna give them another three/four weeks before I lift them all dry off and get my misses for the price of wine and new frock to plait them up they lock great hanging in the kitchen but only one at a time the others kept cool in the utility

My garlic from last year lasted until February however planted approx 200 last October and they are all up and growing

I also use the close from the bulbs and have two years in a row had a good crop

    Happy gardening
