Hi Beth - yes I think you will still be OK. I've planted my garlic bulbs in pots (I think around 4 weeks ago, perhaps a bit early?) and they are sprouting already! If you plant them in pots, if the weather gets really cold, you could always bring them inside your greenhouse (if you have one). I'm still experimenting and learning as I go, so I would get out there this morning and start planting!

Plant it right this minute! Only joking, but I would get it in the ground sooner rather than later - says the woman who has 4 bulbs still waiting to go in: I think today may be the day.

I planted mine yesterday. It is the first time I have tried to grow garlic so I am quite excited.

I planted 2 bulbs worth of cloves and still have a bulb left which I will keep until spring and grow in a container

Planted mine (for the first time) a week or so ago and already they are shooting up (not in a drugs related sense). Type was Marco, bought from an ordinary garden centre.

I lost count of the bulbs we now have. The Garlic Farm man was at the farm yesterday and the farmers' market today.

Note to self - plant garlic next week when Miss E back at school.

Every time I've tried to get to plant it's rained

So i've started mine in cell packs then I can transplant when they have roots on & are better able to cope with the wilds of Warwickshire

Planted ours 2 weeks ago, and nothing has sprouted as yet, I know it was overwintering type (it said so on the packet!), so not sure if I've done something wrong or whether we will see anything yet, any ideas anyone?

blinking weather!

I was supposed to get my garlic in yeaterday when the weather was nice but i forgot to take the required equipment up to the plot and anyway, it took me 3 hours to incorporate my mustard green manure (1 out of 3 beds - oh joy!) so i was too knackered to do anything after that!

With the impending cold snap later this week should i get it in now (like today or tomorrow) or wait a week or so for some milder weather? I was concerned that if i put it in now and they got frosted te roots wouldn't have developed enough to cope

Anyone know?

I think whenever you can get the things in the ground is the right time!
I've got garlic, shallots, autumn onions , spring bulbs etc. all waiting to be planted as everything seems to keep conspiring against me to stop me getting outside planting & I've still got summer bedding & plants in pots etc. which I can't bear to throw away yet as they still look good. Plan to get out there this week if the ground dries out a bit.
