A while ago I recall there was a thread about potatoes growing where they grew last year,ie freebies. Some advocated leaving them and some pulling them up,here is my story this year.
Last year I planted pink fir apples and their "hybrid" types, anya etc,I reported that I was dissapointed with the hybrids and wouldn't plant them again.Well I had some freebies and lifted them at the weekend, they were better than the ones I planted last year, but still hold the view that PFA are the tastiest of them all.
The PFA's I planted this year from seed potatoes are still growing and not touched yet, just enjoying the free ones.
I'm also enjoying the pentland javelin, though not the bad back that I got whilst digging them up.

They popped up everywhere for me this year, I think the common term is volunteers. I had to pull half them up before they progressed as they where affecting other crops. I also have them taking over my compost!

I've left all mine this year after the manure disaster; they will be dug up in about 3-4 weeks time.

I got 7lbs of volunteers from the onion patch! I have PFA growing at the top of the garden where they grew last year. Hopefully I'll get a good crop!

I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.

Other than in the compost bin I always pull up stragglers, as I call them, otherwise I would end up with potatoes all over the plot. And I do find that they interfere with other crops growing. I have had some brilliant crops from the compost bin though.
