  • Foil mulch

Has anyone tried and had success using foil or a reflective mulch?

The theory is good in poor light conditions I suppose. Cutting holes in a thermal foil blanket would do, but I've never tried it or seen it done.

its a pain in the a to work with as it tears v easy if you using it out doors the wind will tear it to peices in front of your eyes and even if your using it in a growroom i doubt the benifits would out way the hassle when it comes to watering ,im not saying dont use it and it does depend on a few more details but if it way me i wouldnt bother ,cheers

They trialled it in Clumber Park glass house a couple of years back. The idea was reflected light confused pests that normally live on the underside of leaves. Don't know how well it worked but it wasn't on for very long. AFAIK it was another of James Wongks recommendations.

Geoff Hamilton usd to use a foil covered light box on his window sill to stop plants going leggy and make better use of reflected light through a window.

I've got one of those in my loft. It works well but I could do with about nine more

I have never tried using foil, but have used black/white poly sheets, black side up to build up soil temperature then turn and white side up for growing, it was onions but I would think any veg would do
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
