  • Flowering rhubarb!?!

    We planted 4 rhubarb plants last year and one of them has flowered. We have beheaded it but was this the right thing to do? Have to admit it is a little late if it wasn't right.
    I didn't think they flowered this early.

    Yes you did the right thing. They run to seed if they are under stress - I think the recent dry spell will be the culprit. I'm letting my washing up water go cold and tossing it on rhubarb and fruit bushes this year. Your crown will recover and be fine next year.

      Thanks flum...answered for me too as Rhubarb I have inherited on the new plot is also flowering (plus allotment manager raked it with the plough )
