    Everlasting Onion Help

    Some years ago, we had onions that grew in bunches, you could pull some and leave the others in the ground. We used to call them 'Everlasting Onions,' I've heard since they might officially be called something - can't remember but it has 'Welsh' in the name.

    Does anyone know about these? I'd appreciate any info.

    hi ,if you go to search at top of page it will show you other threads on the same subject,apparently they are welsh onions,so you were correct,and welcome to the vine,what location are you growing,as it helps others to give advice,as growing conditions vary in different parts of the country.

      I finished up chucking all my welsh onions out as they are too mild for my taste!

        you got it with your guess: perennial Welsh Onion (Allium fistulosum). Taste is between a chive and an onion. Too mild for me, I like them eye-wateringly tasty.

            Mm - mild - the perfect onion for me then
            I love proper onions cooked, but in salads milder is deffo better!
            Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.

              Thanks everyone for your help - I checked the other thread, Terrier. I'll look for them as perrenial Welsh onions. I found the flavour OK, I like a big of variety (of intensity) in onions. Also the availability was great. When we had them, they often saved me a trip to the shop in Winter when I needed a couple of onions - almost every recipe needs them, I reckon.

              Lottie Dolly, I live in Southern Ireland where we've been treated to even more summer rain this year than our usual quota.
