    Early ripening peppers

    Morning,

    I've always had trouble getting peppers to ripen in good time and this year was no different. I had 4 Marconi plats and probs only 1/3 of the peppers I ate red. They were grown under cover. Wondering if there were any similar long red peppers that are really early to ripen? I do like the size and flavour but eating that many green peppers is not what I'm after

    Not sure but interested to see what other grapes recommend. I tend to have more success with things ripening outdoors than in a GH for some reason...

      I don’t know of any. That doesn’t mean they’re not available.
      It would help if we knew where about you are.
      What time of ear do you start your seeds germinating?

        I grew pepper redskin for the first time this year and they have been the best that I have ever grown. They are still going strong outdoors in a mini greenhouse. It gets very hot and humid in the small space, which I think helps them to flower, set and ripen. I bought them as small plants as I was very behind with my sowings this year.
        I have grown California wonder in the same place previously, they produced heavily one year, but not the next, and remained green both times. Redskin have been the easiest to grow and ripen to red for me.

            I grow Gypsy peppers. They are quite long and pointy and most of them ripen every year in the greenhouse. They are not that easy to get hold of. Suttons do them though.

              Fairly early. Maybe end of Feb latest. As soon as my chillis have vacated the propagator.

              Just noticed realseeds have a few that they say are free really early and they look quite interesting. Out of stock at the moment tho.

                Pointy varieties from my 'early pepper' shortlist, some are longer than others, some aren't easy to find:

                Diablo F1, Carmen F1, Gypsy F1, Sweet Banana, Amy, Amanda, Lipstick, Semaroh, Sakura, Ferenc Tender, Cubanelle, Feher Ozon, Zlaten Meda, Kurtovska Kapija

                    ....whilst not "pointy", Yellow Monster did very well for me this year

                        I grew King of the North this year in my greenhouse, and one was a tiny bit red, the others stayed green. I wasn't too surprised tbh, having scoured threads for more northerly grapes growing peppers. Yorkshire isn't too different from Edinburgh, so maybe this is one to look out for.
                        Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.

                          Unfortunately I've never managed to grow Lipstick successfully, user error/old seeds/duff packet. It's well recommended on several websites for short season climates though. Next year we will be growing Amy and Semaroh for the first time. Amy has an AGM from the RHS and Sea Spring Seeds recommend Semaroh for smallish containers. Napia is another fairly early point pepper from Real Seeds, but it's a bit too thin walled for my liking.

                            Not many of our KotN ripened to red either. They did produce a good amount of fruit though. New Ace F1 is one of the earliest ripening bell peppers though the fruit are a bit inconsistent in shape. Oda is an early purple bell I'm interested in trying. Next year we're trying fewer bells and more pointy Eastern European types.
