  • Do my beans look big in this?

Could anyone give me a bit of advice on some green beans I'm growing, please?

I sowed the plants in the accompanying pics just over four weeks ago, and have been very pleased with firstly the numbers germinated - virtually every one came through - and the overall look (I thought) of the seedlings shown. The only problem I seem to be having now is that the plants are turning very leggy, and are in fairly obvious need now of planting on or planting out.

The last thing I want to is to stick them out too early and then lose them through my haste, but it's also abundantly clear that I can't hold them back much longer before the 'leggyness' renders them almost unfit for use. Could anyone advise me on these points, please? I think I need to do something in the next couple of days, so your advice would be very welcome at this point.

I would start to harden them off which will also have the effect of slowing them down a bit. Hardening off should take at least a week. Or move them somewhere cooler but light.

Mine are of a similar size & I have put a cane in each pot approx 1ft tall so if they feel like twining they can.

Thank you, Roitelet, I'll try that...Might have to be a makeshift coldframe but I'll try to give it a go...

Thank you for your reply, Mally. I hadn't thought of that...

Just don't leave them out at night yet it's to cold, a nice sheltered spot with little or no wind will do nicely during the day.
