  • Dead Tumbler tomato

Went in the GH this morning and found this, it is well watered so obviously it is some kind of root rot or disease not allowing the plant to take up what it needs.

Having promised people plants I can't afford to loose one so my first move was to cut off a couple of large droopy stems and pop them in the proverbial milk bottle of water, tomorrow will tell if we are going to get anywhere with this one.

Looks OK apart from the floppiness! Hope it survives.

Trouble is if the plant has a problem, the cuttings might also be no good, when I've struck stem cuttings from tommies, I've just put them in a pot of compost not water.

              Dead Tumbler tomato 2

For some reason I can't post on the original thread so will start a new one in order to reply to folks.

Jimmy it has exactly the same symptoms as root fly, I will let you know what I find when I get it out of the basket.

Yes it did Bren the photograph was taken the next day, just hoping for the roots to show now, will then add a small pinch of Miracle Grow to aid development.

Yep I know it's not a milk bottle but they seem very scarce these days

Potty, are you using "2nd hand" compost? Could it be vine weevil damage?

Progress, today the roots are clearly visible, because we also have flowers I have now put them in a very weak mix of Miracle Grow. Not bad from the 31st of last month.

Four days on, 9 days total and the result is two nice plants potted up in very moist compost and in the GH

All we need now is some warm weather...............
