Never heard of birds going for cukes but I wouldn't put it past them. We had some out doors on the patio the last couple of years and the birds didn't bother, but they were quite close to the house and last year there wasn't much for them to pinch as most of them died when we had this freak downpour. I'd say they'd be ok if they're close to the house

Outdoors ...I grow loads of ridge cukes....you'll get away with Japanese 1/2 and 1/2 type outdoors too.....I've never had a problem with birds. Red spider mite, snails etc the biggest prob.

...but frame cukes?...doubt it, cold winds will do for them...but in a sheltered spot in a good summer maybe just.

Hi Michelle and welcome to the vine. Don't know how big your family is or what sort of cucumber you are growing. But it sounds as if you are going way over the top with cucumbers. Two plants will normally have cucumbers coming out of an average sized families ears.

Not if you love cucumbers - you could always make some chutney etc with them.
I have 2 chystel lemons which are quite tiny still (Thanks Ginger ) and have sown 2 more different ones from the squash parcel - both for outside. All me kids love em so wont matter too much and I can always give them to neighbours etc.
