  • Cucumbers Getting Tall

I need some advice please. I'm growing some cucumber plants in pots in the greenhouse, and they are starting to fruit, but the plants themselves are starting to get quite tall.
Should I cut off the growing tip now and let them concentrate their efforts in the fruit or let them keep growing in height? They currently stand about 1.1/2metres tall and appear quite healthy and bushy.
FWIW they are Femspot variety which is an F1 Hybrid. I have another one growing in there but it is not a hybrid (Variety Wautoma) and is still quite small.
I am watering them all twice daily as it is (surprise surprise) quite warm at the mo down here in Surrey.

Hi RL, and yes, I have them supported on a central cane. Space is a tad limited in my greenhouse so if possible I wanted to restrict their lateral growth. I just wondered if there was an optimum height for these to attain before they started going mad, growing in all directions but not really producing cukes, just loads of foliage.

I train my cumbers up a cane to about 6ft high, then horizontally along a length of twine hopefully for the length of the 8ft green house.

I also grow them up a cane until they hit the roof then go sideways, round the toms as far as they will go. The same with the side shoots!
I have tried a grafted variety this year and the fruits are hanging there like grapes - can't give them away fast enough!
