I tried growing cucumbers last year but they all failed - i am trying again this year but the same thing seems to be happening.

as the new growth comes the old leaves dry up and die (see the attached).

the plant is shaded in my green house.

    what am i doing wrong.

Can you tell us a bit more? What variety are you growing? What are they growing in (both growing medium and container size), how often do you water them?
From the pic, it seems as if they are in big buckets or pots - what size of pot were they in and what size were they when you planted them in their big pots?

The head of the plant looks OK, I would just watch you dont over water.
Cucumbers are very sensitive to over watering.
