  • Crystal apple cucumbers

Hi this is Poshiesplot I am new to the grapevine so please be patient! I am growing the crystal apple cucumbers for the first time this year, I normally grow all female cues as they are less work - but suddenly realised these may be both male and female flowers : so if anyone has any info I would be ever so grateful.

Welcome to the Vine Poshiesplot. Yout Crystal Apple should be fine. I grew them last year and they did well outdoors in an abysmal summer. Growing them again this year outdoors in pots. They're looking fine. No special treatment required.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I grew apple cucumbers about 10 years ago as a novelty. They grew outside fine and from what I remember I had a good crop.

Seem to remember they were rather bland/watery in taste tho, I think thats why I stopped growing them?

Thank you for replying to my crystal apple cue question - each of you said more or less that they were fine just fed and left alone so I will go with the flow and see what happens.

I normally grow them but not this year as I haven't got room. As already said, leave them to their own devices and they'll be fine, don't remove the male flowers or you won't get cucs. If you pick them young, they are lovely and tasty in salads. If they get bigger, the skins can get a bit tough but you can either peel them or use them cooked in stir fries. Lovely either way.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
