As we have just bought our muck, it got me wondering what sort of price other people pay for theirs? I know a 'trailer load' can vary in size, and the quality is bound to differ but it would be interesting to see the variation in cost. We paid £20 per load.

I think I paid £25 for a trailer load. I used about a quarter of it and still have a heap about 5 foot high
I dread to think how much there was, needles to say it didn't help the trapped nerve in my back at the time.

cost of muck
I'm very lucky in that I work for an agricultural and drainage contractor so am frequently on farms in the area and have an LDV dropside for work, work with a JCB so have never ending supply of easily loaded and transported well-rotted manure, and all for the cost of saying "please can I have some ?". The only downer is that I have to empty the van ready for the next day's work - has been known for the local police to stop and ask me what I am doing barrowing muck/topsoil/gravel into my garden at 11pm in the dark.

I feel a joke coming on
The temptation, the temptation, for one of the policeman to say, "what's all this s**t then?"....sorry....major stereotype but couldn't resist it. Who goes around arresting people who are trying to improve soil conditions? Tax payers money is going a long way, next they will be arresting fence painters, shed repairers and people caught carry vegetables out of plastic bags. Oh the horror!

£20 is the going rate where we are, a decent load is about 20 barrow loads (builders barrow) A lot depends how far the supplier - farmer - has to haul it.Comment
