  • Cooking Lupini

I've just sown some Lupini beans (because I had them - because they were reduced) and wondered if anyone cooks with them. I'm specifically looking at those with an Italian bent as it seems that this is were they are most popular,

What's the best way to prepare them so that they don't send me off to the hospital after eating them?

Can they be prepared in a way that takes less than a week?

Are they just useable as a snack or are there any decent recipes using them?

Why bother with toxic beans that take a long time to prepare when there are other, easier and less toxic beans out there - is their flavour that good.

    Never heard of them before!
I had a little goooogle and came up with the fact there are two types...bitter and non bitter.
Do you know which one you have?
    They need preparing differently apparently.

Haven't got a clue - the box didn't even have sowing instructions.

All the instructions I've found seemed to be for the bitter type (soaking for 3 days, changing the water 4 times a day, etc) so I'm wondering if they are the more common type.

I may try the Middle Eastern Lupini - I'll start practicing on the beer part straight away.

Ooh, no. It looks like they might be sweet. Found these instructions
        https://www.growitalian.com/guide-to...-lupini-beans/

which is the brand I've got. I'll see if they have white flowers later on.

Lupini seem interesting as they contain all the essential amino acids and can be processed similar to soy with almost the same amount of protein but can be grown in cooler climates.
