Is it too soon to plant out our climbing frenchies and borlotto's???

Please don't say yes cos they've just gone in!

Oh dear...mine have been in for weeks now. Mind you I was a bit early with everything this year. Still they are doing fine and only get fleeced on the really cold nights.

I would imagine most places in UK will be okay for planting out now - my climbing French and my Runners went into the cold frame today - will be planting out week commencing 3rd June, in accordance with the guidance laid down by the gardener that is Jaxom, who dances with the moon ( or is it barks at it - can never quite remember )

Are yours outside yet andrew? I think you're as keen on beans as we are!

This year the Borlotti are Lamon, the Frenchies are blauhilde and kentucky wonder plus goldfield.

Dont worry Peardrop. Most of mine were sown at the begining of May but another tray has been sown tonight.
They are quite prolific and I have found the best way to store them is in the freezer. You can just bung them in stews etc then without having to soak them. Make sure that if you do dry them that you ensure that they really are dry as I lost 2 jars last year that went mouldy because they were not dry enough which is why I freeze them now.

Think I must have been suffering from spring fever but I planted this runner bean on 25th Feb as just had to get started. It was far too early offcourse but it does make quite a nice houseplant so keeping it for a pet.

I see from my chart I planted the rest on 14th April and I've had to plant them out as they are so big although we could get frost til the end of the month. Will have to rely on fleece if that happens. Next year won't plant the beans til end of April, that will be plenty of time. Told you I was depending on that chart.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

They are still in the tray but are outside, left them out for ten days and covered with fleece at night. Last night, left uncovered and they are okay, so tomorrow, they will be going on the wigwam, the varieties I have are blauhilde (always good), sultana, cobra and borlotta. I also have canoe and 1/2 pint peas.
                      Best wishes
