  • Chilli Tepin

I don't hear much about this little beauty on here so I thought I'd start a thread...

I got one from the gardeners at Ryton Gardens earlier this year - the chillis are quite small but boy - they pack a punch!

But the flavour is quite rounded and although hot, it's sort of 'full' hot not 'sharp' hot.

Just wondered if anyone else has grown these - although I didn't isolate any of them I might save from a few pods and see if it grows true next year.

They are [basically] the original wild chilli from which all others were bred.

Well. I planted one of these in Jan 2011. It did nothing.

I overwintered it and through 2012 has grown to be a large and handsome plant, but it *still hasn't flowered*. It's definitely a chilli and presumably a hot one, because if you rub the leaves it smells of chill, but it's not playing.

I'm overwintering again in the hope that next year it will shower me in fiery fruit.

[actually, I've half filled the house with a variety of overwintering chillis]
