  • The cabbage patch

One of my favourite vegetables to grow is cabbage and even if I say so myself, quite successfully.

    My favourite varieties are

Golden Acre..nice and sweet and quick to mature
Marabel...nice dense heads and stands well over winter
    Bourbon, great in coleslaw
    January King...favourite winter cabbage
Ruby Perfection (red) long croping season and stores well when cut.

    What cabbages do you grow?

I'm not a huge cabbage fan but I do like Spring Hero as a spring cabbage, and I've had some good success with Hispi and Duncan.

I'm a fan of golden acre. Grow it every year.
Growing January King for the first time this year.
I like savoy and red drumhead as well.
Always willing to take advice on new varieties. There's so many different ones and I'm easily confused!

I struggle with them, as the damn CWBs, slugs and drought does them in.

However, I have recently discovered that Duncan is sweeter and nicer than lettuce and more heat-tolerant (than lettuce), so I grow a dozen of those

I'm trying Durham Early and collards, also have some Greyhound hoping they mature before the cold sets in.
