  • Cabbage and Broccoli plugs?

    Me again

My plugs arrived yesterday from the sub offer.

I am struggling for where to put them in the garden. First question is can they be grown in tubs/containers if so, what size?

My second question is how long should they be covered for? In the garden I already have a row of cabbage, a row of cauli and a row of red cabbage. At the moment I have them covered with the netting clunnels from Wilko but they are brushing the top of this already - I don't want to take this off and risk bugs but i don't want to "stunt" growth by not allowing them much room?

I have a roll of fleece and some old fibreglass bendy tent poles - should I do a makeshift larger tunnel for the ones already planted?

Thanks again in advance - it's great to have so many people to ask!

I always put root collars on to stop cabbage root fly, simple square bits of old growbag.

    As for nets.
If you can inspect the leaves regularly and crush the cabbage white eggs and you don't have pigeon problems, then they might not need netting.

As for tubs, they may work but cabbage etc are best grown in the open ground.

Save you tubs for better things like courgettes, tomatoes, peppers etc.
