    A brief hello and a swede question with pics.

    Hello!

    This is my first post! I only found the forum a couple of weeks back and thought you guys maybe able to help.

    I growing lots of veg in various ways around the back garden. I even constructed some raised beds- Which was fun! I'll do another post with a tour of my veggies in another post.

    For now though I was wondering if anyone knows what is wrong with my swedes? They are pretty big now but very holey- no obvious critters... They are planted in a mix of topsoil and compost (from the garden centre) which was dug in a little to the layer underneath which is alot of clay!! There is a good foot and a half of decent soil though.

    (resized the pics- how did I do?)

    Also they are getting more holey and one of them the centre has turned brown?? Maybe it was me pulling it around to much.

    I'm quite new to the veggie growing game so any help very much welcome!!

        Flea beetle? They're making a mess of my radishes at the mo - bladdy things. They don't normally cause too much of a problem.

          got the same problem here any idea how to combat the little beggers without chemicals

              Flea Beetle love dry conditions.
              You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans

                Welcome to the vine! Flea beetle usually only attack them when they are young. If they survive, which yours appear to have done, they should be ok!

                  Keep the soil moist, as flea beetle prefers dry conditions. You could also pass a piece of card (covered with something sticky like Vaseline) over the plants: the beetles will jump up and stick on the card. Repeat as necessary ... compost the card & beetles

                    Yup, they look like my parnsips. If you run a stick through the soil as above you'll see them jump around. Then catch then like Two Sheds suggests above.

                        Thanks everyone Will see if I can catch any of the beasts over the weekend with the vaseline trick! I only grew tomatoes last year and lost them all to blight So i'm a bit like an overprotective mum lol!
