  • Bolting Garlic...

Every single one of my Garlics has produced a long curly seed shoot....

    What do I do now?

One of the 2 groups of garlics always produce flowers. I answered a thread on this a little while ago - so its totally normal. The bulbs will be fine if you leave the flowers on, but will be bigger if you remove, so its up to you, but either way will store BUT this form doesn't store well anyway.

Here is my reply from before:

If you want mega-bulbs take the flowers off, but some varieties will flower anyway. Some garlic is hard-necked (planted autumn), the others soft necked (can be planted spring) and hard-necked will always flower. Cut off the flower just below the actual flower part - although the bulbs formed here can be used to grow more garlic!

The flowers are a delicacy called Scape. See the recipe below, found on the internet.

Steam or Stir Fry Garlic Flowers
The garlic tops, called flowers or garlic scapes, are a gourmet delight! Steam them whole and serve with melted butter like asparagus. Cut them into short lengths to add to a stir fry. They have a delicate garlic flavour which gives a subtly different and delicious flavour to the sauce.
