  • Betel leaf

I’ve been watching Masterchef Australia and they have used this particular leaf with some Asian dishes. I got curious and googled it.
It has some other names - Wild pepper, kadok, bai cha plu, daun kaduk, betel pepper, la lot, paan, piper Betel.
Has any member ever grown this ?, is it possible to get seed for it on this side of the world ?.

Never heard of it before but a quick search shows that you can get Betel nuts on fleabay, and they look like the seeds of the betel plant. No idea if they'd grow if you bought some, but that might be worth a try, considering the only plant I can find to buy on there is £50!

Betel nuts come from a different plant to Betel leaf.

Not sure if they can be imported ?
I recall there was a ban a few years ago due to salmonella or something?

          Just found this...

Might be worth checking up first as things might have changed?

Let us know how it goes Can the Man - I'd love to know more

Thank you VC - it was a guess that the nuts were from the same plant. They look very similar with that distinctive stripe on them. Thank you for clarifying
