  • beetroot leaves for salad

I have just got some seeds of mixed salad leaves for cut and come again which I am going to grow in pots . In the salad mix that you buy from the supermarket it looks and tastes like it has beetroot leaves and stems in . Is this right . If it is I will grow some beetroot just for the leaves as I have never had much luck with growing beetroot for the root . It never gets very big . This would be ideal for growing the leaves though .

It has two chances , up or down.

Yes, you can get salad mixes with beetroot leaves in, and you can grow your own from normal beetroot seeds - go for it!

My beetroots that I've left in the ground to seed save this year are growing lovely leaves at the moment which will make their way very soon into salads.

I'm going to grow some for the baby leaves. I find that I always end of with lots of free beetroot from magazines and alike so always have loads of seed.

Divvy, if you've any spinach seed you can put that in too and cut baby leaves for salad.
And don't forget about the nasturtium leaves - and flowers.

if youre finding your beetroots are not getting very big, you can still pickle them in white vinegar and theyre lovely. i`ve also cooked the chard as its a member of the spinich family and is lovely with fish. yum!!
