  • Bay Cuttings

    Hi

I was bought a bay tree back in September for my birthday and in the pot it has developed little shoots. Like So:

Can I take these as cuttings? and if so, how?

    Thanks

Hello Wizer, looks like suckers on your bay tree. If you want to take cuttings just poke down into the soil around the base of the baby and using secteurs or a sharp knife cut it free from the parent, pull it out and plant it.

Don't think Bays are grafted, that is not growing on their own root. Have a look at the plant and see. If its grafted the suckers could be anything and useless and I would just get rid of them

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I agree with Alice, check around the compost & see if they are attached to the parent plant. If the bay is a standard & has a grafting joint where it joins the rootstock they could be suckers off that rootstock but if not they could be bay suckers or even seedlings from seed shed by the bay.
Into every life a little rain must fall.
