  • Banana skins for Tomatoes

I’ve just had a thought! I’m going to pot on my Toms into MFB’s soon and I have a glut of banana skins I’m about put in the compost bin.

Shall I put say one whole banana skin in the MFB with the Tom instead?

    Kind Regards.............Rob

I can see the logic in that as the banana skins would be a good source of potash. Ive seen it recommended to dry the banana skins and pulverise them. Seems like a lot of work to me.
I think i would just put them in the compost heap but I would be interested if anyone has used them in pots or planting holes.

Let the banana peels compost before adding to your soil as they require air to break down. Putting them in soil when not composted will slow down the process thus the nutrients from the banana will not be so readily available.
