Do any of you have a preferential supplier of sturdy bamboo canes?

I have to put up a lot of garden bed hazard fencing to deter a too keen 1/2 grown mad puppy...

Some bamboo will easy make 7 feet in a growing season. Ask at your local nursery. Be warned that you need to keep them contained as they send out suckers underground and can soon take over a large area.

I grow black bamboo in a cold, damp and shady corner of my garden. It started as a £1 special from Wilco about 15 years ago and I now have a clump about 8' high and approx 10' in diameter. This type does not spread rapidly in my experience and I can recommend it to anyone who does have a bit of unloved space either in their own garden or say on a nearby bit of rough ground :-)Originally posted by goosander View PostComment

I tend to buy when I can see what I'm getting. The source is many and varied. It's a sort of consumable that will usually give 5-10 years service.
If it looks suitable I will buy a bundle, often out of season at discounted rates to get the best value, but if you need some take whats there.
Harvesting Hazel poles or similar from a wild hedge might be old school, but if you can get the owners permission it's a good source.Comment

I have always bought from The Range but the year before last I was too late do ordered from Wilkos and they were a very mixed bunch, some quite thick and others spindly. Got in early at The Range last year and they were all very sturdy.Comment
