These chemical companies have a lot to answer for - but they don't care - as long as they make money.
We don't know what's in the compost we buy and that worries me too.

As a user of well rotted horse muck this is worrying. I hadn't realised that even after a year of rotting down in a compost bin this stuff is still active. Apparently it needs soil microbes to break down and can take a year in the soil before that happens. God knows what it does to the poor horses who eat it.

He seems to be the sort of guy people should listen to, I haven't used horse manure in my garden, I was frightened off from it some years ago and have a free supply in the village, but I won't use it. I guess I could do his testing, but decided to only use cow dung and it seems my plants are ok.

I'm lucky in that the place where I keep my horses makes their own hay and haylage. They don't use weedkillers on the fields as the horses graze there part of the year, so there are weeds in the hay (a mixture of plants is actually better than just grass as far as the horses are concerned, as long as it doesn't include ragwort). The downside is that the manure can contain weed seeds, although many are killed by the heat of the heap.

This happened to me in 2014. I no longer collect or use horse manure unless it's from a commercial source (bagged) so i have some form of comeback if it happens again. It took at least two seasons before i stopped seeing the effects of this poison on my plot.

One year I use Alpacca manure - it came from a friend so I knew there wasn't any weed killers but OMG!! Even composting for a couple of years gave me a headache with weeds

Well that's worrying. I don't use manure, but I do have a small bale of straw that I'm using for mulch and compost browns. No problems with the current bale but sounds like I need to be careful when I buy more.

Straw is Ok as comes from cereals. It's hay that can be affected as they use on the grass fields.

If you search "aminopyralid" on twitter you find Tom Watson complaining about Dow Chemicals selling the stuff back in 2009.
