  • 2nd year celery any good?

    Hi all,

Just a quick query about celery- we got an allotment last summer, it was pretty late in the season when we got started so we tried planting a few things but not really expecting much. We put in some celery plants, and they kinda just sat there all year! They are still looking healthy now, but not really of a pickable size- is it worth leaving them be for this year and see If they bulk up, or will they just bolt and go to seed? I've never really grown celery before so don't know what to expect. They are taking up valuable real estate so if it's not worth keeping them they'll get the compost heap!

    Cheers.

I would take them out. They are bi annuals and will go to seed this year.

Take them out. If they do grow the stems will be tough and woody.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
