I have been thinking about gaining to some extra water containers to harvest the water from the flat roof extension and the greenhouse - but as usual didn't get beyond the thinking stage. But now my one and only water butt has sprung a leak and I need to get three or maybe four water butts really quickly. I would like to find containers that are recycled, as in previously used for something else rather than made of recycled plastic. And preferably less expensive (than buying new) or even free. They don't have to look good and I don't mind what size - quite happy to link them if necessary. I did try the tyres option as in previous magazine article but made it too tall for a midget like me to get the water "safely" - actually ended up tipping the entire arrangement over mountaineering into the murky depth! Would be safer for me to have butts with taps!

ATBS1, not sure what sort of space you have but I got a couple of 1000ltr IBC'c (intermediate bulk containers) and stacked them, see http://www.smithsofthedean.co.uk/Rec...Containers.htm
You can find plenty on ebay, the trick is to find some that are local and haven't had something nasty in them

Thanks for your replies. I now need to find local company to approach. Do I presume I need to look for a bulk food producer? Does anyone know of a useful supplier or ideas of who to try in the Gloucester/Bristol/Bath area?Comment

Hi ATBS1, The water container that Carloline suggested are brilliant and we have loads of them. I think we got ours from a local Velvet producers and we got about 20 that had a soap inside which after a good wash out they were fine. When we went to get them they had about 80 of these stacked up and they were giving them all away.
