  • Space blankets as greenhouse reflectors?

    Hi,

My greenhouse only gets the sun from one direction, and later in the season is badly shaded by overhanging trees. Would tacking space blankets to the 'back' panes increase light by reflection, or cut out indirect light coming in from behind?

I'm no expert, but USA out there preppers that live on what they grow, tend to put black walls of high mass and semi sink thier greenhouses to benefit from the ground warmth/insulation rather than reflect in extra light. I know they have much colder winters and several feet of snow to contend with so that may change the outlook.

Of course I've got all this first hand from internet yootoob videos so it's quite valid information!

I'm just looking for a bit of extra light, not worried about the temperature...

Give it a try, when i had the use of the space room,i turned the dressing table round,so the large long mirror was facing the window, the plants i had on it grew just fine,as in not leggy and straight up,so i would imagine anything reflective would work, our greenhouse is in a similar situation now it been moved, but still the toms grew well, always worth a try,the only thing i would keep an eye on is,anything reflective does not end up burning the plants on a hot day, when they been watered.
