  • Raised beds in poly tunnel over winter

Hi folks I was doing a bit of work in my poly tunnel today, dug out the last of my potatoes, question, some of the other beds were very dry and hard, just wondering if I should continue to water even if there is nothing growing in it or would that just wash the nutrients away?

I have trans planted some lettuce plugs and some scallions into some raised beds.

When I had my tunnel, any beds that were dry come spring (because they had nothing growing in them) Just got a really really good soaking just before sowing/planting time.

I don't water in my greenhouse unless there's something growing in there, so just now the lettuce are watered and the containers are watered weekly if there's no frost forecast and only if the pots have dried out. Most stuff gets to rest under fleece until March.

I don’t water my tunnel raised bed over winter.
But when it’s been emptied ( any time now), I put a good thick layer of manure on it then cover it with weed fabric until I need it next year.
