  • newbie question - greenhouse heating

    Hi

I have an 8'x6' unheated greenhouse. Two of the glass panes are cracked, so you could describe is as well ventilated!

I would like to keep it frost free, but not heated - if that makes sense. Would this https://www.parasene.com/vshop/details.asp?prodID=418
do the job? or perhaps using two of them at the same time?

    thanks

erm, no, i don't think so... they are cold frame heaters, so if you think of the size of a cold frame compared to the size of your greenhouse? Plus your added 'ventilation'...

You could section off a part of your greenhouse with plastic sheeting/bubblewrap, and the heater would probably keep that frost free.

a lot of places that sell heaters say what square footage/metre-age that they heat.

You need this one for an 8x6 it has two wicks but you dont have to have them both lit if it's mild (as it may be where you are.

First off though is replace the glass & line with bubble wrap - that makes a huge difference.

I sectioned off my 8' 6' greenhouse with bubble wrap around the seedlings I had suspended guttering on wire from the roof of the greenhouse so I was able to use the small frost protector rather than using a larger one which really did use a lot of oil (mine has four wicks and two chimneys) Granted the gap I had to keep frost free was only 5ft x 1 1/2 foot but it did the job very well and saved me ££'s compared to previous years when I used the big heater
