  • new tunnel up, but not quite running

    Hiya all,

Ive managed to get enough spare time to get my 10x25 tunnel put together!!Yippee!!

We got a few pairs of extra hands to pull over the massave piece of polythene and attach it to the homemade (half the price of tunnel supplier) base rail. unfortunatly becasue of the unforseen weather conditions that day its all together quite soggy inside, so i think im gonna have to wait a little while before i can start preparing inside for growing and laying a walkway.

Im really pleased with the results and with its anchor plates, crop bars and base rail is more sturdy than i could have imagined. One corner need tightening a little but that wont take long.

Just thought i'd share my 1st tunnel excitment!!

    Oh- that's GREAT news!!!!

    You've done really well!

Bet it's nice and cosy in there when the sun comes out.

What are you planning to grow in it??- earlier /later cropping , or more delicate veg/fruit/flowers???

Would love to see a photo of it !

    oh....and welcome to the Vine!!

Best wishes and it won't take too long to dry out.

I had the rotovator on mine today and just a few inches the other side of the plastic the ground is sodden! You will soon be reaping your rewards!

I would love to have a poly tunnel on my plot! Was thinking I would do it next year but I really would like it this year. How much did it cost? I would only need a small one though as I only have a small plot. 5 by 6 meters at the biggest

Congrats, your fingers must be itching to get going, as previously mentioned it won't be long until it is dry enough. Any plans on what you are going to be growing?

                    Hi Tori

I got mine on e-bay I saw thousands come and go that I wanted but cost too much then finally one was advertised poorly. no picture etc. I was able to speak with the owner and found out the cover was only a year or two old and re-usable and fortunately got it for £400 ; 90ft x 30ft x 10ft tall I was/still am sooooo happy!
I had to build the doors and venting but all in it has cost less than £550

                    Regards
                    Pat

hiya, sorry for the delay ive been very busy sorting our pigs for buchering, laying paths and sowing seeds!

To answer it cost around £500 for 10'x 25' with anti fog cover, crop bars and anchor plates. We decided to buy our own wood for the base rail as first tunnels wanted around £100 for the timber ect. we managed to find some one with an account at a local builders and got it for around £45, plus some extra bits as we calculated the mearurements wrong!! oops. We also managed to find a friend who wanted rid of some paving slabs so got them for the centre path for the price of a beer!

Up to now ive got pak choi, a variety of lettuce, peas, beans, 100's & 1000' toms to hang from the crop bars and some others for the ground, leeks, broccoli (purple sprouting), sweet corn (???), carrots, basil.

Im hoping to get some sweet potatoes in some tubs to try out and move my soft fruits inside to stop the birds getting to them.

any other reccomendations welcome as im still a beginner at this and any advice would be welcome!

                        Hope your all well,
