    Impossible to assemble my first Aluminium/polycarbonate greenhouse

    Hi everyone,

    Been away for a while as life took over. Still been gardening but a move to the Scottish highlands and an exceptionally poor growing season last year hasn’t put me off. So this year I bought a greenhouse but where do I start and HOW do these go together?

    I have all the bits in the right place, read instructions inside out but when it comes to assembling it says to start on the rear side first but when I get the frame in place and put the panels in it fall apart and it is driving me crazy.

    It’s going to be situ on a concrete floor in an enclosed ‘patio garden’ (away from the rabbits)

    Has anyone put one of these together again. Am I best to just wait til there are 2 of us to do it? xx

    2 people will almost certainly make it 3 times easier... though you may all fall out with one another

    Do you know the make / model ?
    Is it polycarbonate panels or thin sheets of plastic?

      Haven't ever done one of these, so I may be completely wrong here (wouldn't be the first time)

      I'd have thought that it would be the most straight forward way to get all the frame together first and only then proceed to fitting the panels.

      As someone who works a lot on his own, I'd probably have a few lengths of wood and some clamps at hand, so I could get things propped and held temporarily, well I was working on the next bit.

      BTW You don't say how high your new construction will be, but I've found it a benefit to put things like this on a low wall, so you get the benefit of a bit of added height inside.

        Certainly need 2 people, plus you don't usually put any glazing panels in until the greenhouse frame has been put together ie usually glazing is the last thing to do.

          Sorry - I skipped over the "aluminum/polycarbonate" bit in the title.
          Its generally true that you'd fit the glazing panels after the frame is up but I think I've come across some plastic ones that required the frame to be glazed before it had any strength (through tension IIRC)

          Anyway - if you'd seen the photos of my GH on my plot you'd disregard anything I said on the matter

            Hi Victoria, Welcome back.

            As the others have said, you assemble all the side, front and back panels first, then bolt them all together. When it looks like a GH, you put the glazing in.
            Two pairs of hands are best - don't attempt it on your own.

              I have only ever assisted with building one greenhouse- and the lad I was helping is an engineer by trade- but that model definitely required us to slide some of the plastic glazing panels in before the frame was complete. Thankfully the instructions were accurate, but you did have to have an eye for the detail in diagrams, like which direction a bevelled edge should face...
              Definitely easier with two people (3-4 for the roof bit if it’s windy!)

                Thanks everyone. Its a home base one and the make is Lotus Collection.it is 6x5.
                Looks like it requires the panels to be slided in during construction but I agree wholeheartedly that I need to have help.
                Will keep you posted. I WILL have a crop of something this year!! xx
