Greenhouse Glass Prices ??

I had to replace about 14 panes in my greenhouse, it cost me �100 for a glazier to cut the glass to fit. My bargain ebay greenhouse turned out quite expensive in the end!

Does anyone know where to get horticultural glass online? All I can find is plastic. I need about 4 panes (not sure what size offhand).

My elderly neighbour had a greenhouse with a few missing/broken panes. I posted a wanted request on Freecycle and picked some up from a lovely lady in the next village. I took them to the local hardwarde store to be cut to size and they didn't charge me as I bought some MDPE from them and we fitted them last week. Freecycle may well be worth a try.

I pay �2-50 for the 2'x18" panes and �3-00 for the 2'x2' panes

We're just taking down an old greenhouse and will have about 100-150 panes of glass that we're going to try and get rid of - either eBay or Freecycle - could be worth having a look at either of those!?

RedThorn, Where do you get yours cut, the price seems good to me. (well unless your doing a complete greenhouse)

The place I go to is in Sawbridgeworth but depends where you are, would suggest you look in the pages for a local glazier....

I prefer to use him as he is a one man band and like to support the little guy/local independants where possible

I have seen B&Q selling panes of horticultural glass from split packs of glass at a �1. Local builders merchant sells for �2.80 for a 2x2 sheet.

Seems a bit steep that works out at over �7 a pane is it toughened glass ?

Ive been comparing the prices of glass over polycarb as I have to replace a few panes on my new greenhouse
Cheapest glass I could find was �3.50 inc vat
Ive found a great polycarb supplier on the internet (lucky for me they are based in my hometown) for a few extra quid you can have twin walled polycarb.
I will be replacing my glass with polycarb

Isn't polycarb slightly opaque and will cut down light transmission?

That is a very good point will have to investigated further I do know you can get clear twin walled polycarb.
As far as im aware there is not much light lost
Another source to obtain glass is old misted double glazed units you need to strip them down and cut them yourself but sometimes double glazing firms just bin them so you may not have to pay anything for them.

You were well ripped off. I pay �3 for a 24x24inch sheet. or �3 for a smaller size cut to shape.

I get mine from West Wickham......there is also loads of glass about look on Freecycle.
