we go through loads of the whitish 6 pint plastic milk cartons at work. Although we recycle them now I have my lottie(whahay!!) I am being very frugal and looking at objects in a different light and wondered if they can be of any use around the garden?

Two uses I can think of, Mrs B - one is to cut the plastic into lengths and make plant labels, and the other is to chop the bottom off then bury the neck end next to your crops when planting and water into it - it means that you get the water right to the roots. -
or cut the ends off and use them as an opaque cloche to protect seedlings when frost is forcast.
Or cut them in half put a few holes in the bottem and use them as plant pots.

was suggested to me last year you could maybe stick them on top of bamboo canes to support netting over brassicas or fruit etc etc to keep butterflies / birds off - i'll be using coke bottles or similarComment

I use tonic bottles for that Farmer Gyles. (Not that I need and excuse for a G&T!) They make a lovely rattly noise in the wind too, and scare off the pigeons.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Also useful for storing nettle/comfry tea for use as liquid food or else it stinks if you dont use it right away.I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!Comment

filling them up to use as weights is a good idea - especially as my weed sheeting blew all over the place the other day - have been using old roof tiles
not sure how well the old milk bottles will survive the hot sun if they're filled with water - will probably fill mine with stones and soilComment
