    Automatic window openers

    Wax filled window openers.....

    Are they any good????.....I know its a bit of a general question!!!.

    Looking in ebay I can get cheap ones for about 10 to 20 pounds each, has anyone tried them?

    Im looking to open whole dome sides....polyethylene covered equilateral triangles about 2.4 meters on each side, hinging one side and opening them so 2 sides open up

    Im wondering if they will have the power to open the windows or to hold the windows on if the wind blows....

    One per window...or two...probably 2?

    Or if I should use threaded rods and nut powered by electric motor powered by a small computer PLC?

    Its about 50C+ inside during the day with one triangle open as a door and the top open in the very centre about a foot on each panel, so it needs something to let air in!

    I have a Bayliss auto vent. It must be more than 10 years old and I've had to replace the cylinder once in that time. Can't comment on the unbranded cheaper models but the one I have is only about £20. There are a couple of different models, giving a maximum load. Difficult to get your window on the bathroom scales but perhaps might be possible using one of those luggage scales. Wouldn't be without it.

      And they're great. Lifting fairly heavy windows and rock solid even in gusts.

        I have no idea of the weight but they are not heavy, no windows at the minute, its all in one with no opening parts, I plan to make an internal triangle on each second bay and use that as a window

        Will only be 3 bars of 1 inch by 2 inch pine wood about 2.4 meters long each bar covered with polyethylene so it is not heavy.

        This is how it is now , they are big panels to be windows so i think more than one per panel or it will twist off in the wind

        its about 5.5 meters in diameter and about 4 meters high inside but being very high it needs fewer much bigger triangles than some domes as the more triangles the lower it is for the width and it needs to fit my bigger citrus trees in it so needed to be high

            I wouldn't think weight would be an issue at all. Two points, One, that's an awful big sail to hang of just one opener, I can see it getting destroyed in a gust of wind. Two, would the throw of the opening arm be sufficient to open the window very much.

            Maybe someone can give you an idea of the reach of the things.

              What I as thinking was if I hinge one of the more vertical sides of the triangles and then probably 2 openers to open the other vertical-ish edge, then the top would be open as well due to hinge on 1 side , then have every second one opening so air would flow through

              Only want a few inches open, 2 to 4 inch opening on each or in the wind it will be a problem

              At the top is already open in just the centre, it will be fitted with a `top hat` cone that needs another opener to lift it,

              I am only fitting the top after the covering has been shrunk tight
