  • Advice on polycarbonate GH, what do you think of this one...

At the side of my house is a large concreted area, i have been wanting to put a greenhouse here for years. I can fit nicely a 8ftx12ft, funny size, i know. South-east facing

What do you think of this one, it seems cheap..........but i can drill it onto a wall at the back which is about a meter high will go across the whole back and a little bit on the side maybe another meter, then straight down on the concrete floor (base)

Would i need to buy anything else apart from shelves etc.

Unfortunately, this cannot be delivered to Spain. Do you have an ebay site over there?

Yes, have just been searching & they do indeed only appear to have PT's over there. Ok, if you can get delivery, considering the battering your PT has just undergone, I would definitely put lots of extra bracings across both the frame & the panels. A greenhouse like this one would not stand a chance in the winds you have just had but with extra anchoring & bracing/sealing of panels, it may just make it.

The area is nicely sheltered into a corner and has the protection of the house, so hoping it would be ok.
Do you think t is ok just to use a big ass drill and drill it into the floor or would i need to buy some sort of base. thanks

Have you thought of a toughened glass GH Lisa. They are expensive but could be an option.

I would just be very scared of the animals, i foster lots of pups and have my own to think about i would hate for something to smash and they get hurt. I am quite happy to pay more double maybe a tad more for quality it´s just this one would fit perfectly.

I have had a poly GH like that for several years now and have yet to lose a pane and we get decent winds being on a hill.

They are a pain to put together and it will need two of you. You are talking of screwing it to the floor if you are talking about a concrete floor then yes that will be OK, use 3" screws. When it comes to glazing get some correctly formulated silicone and fix all panels with this. A good sealant for poly/metal is Evo-Stick Serious Stuff Power.

Yep! Agree with all the above, but would "Anchor" it to the wall too using a few treated 3"x2" batons!

Regarding anything else needed apart from shelving, yeah! If it was me, a good size water butt and a nice guttering n down pipe system to feed it.

Being where you are, that is gunna be one nice sized structure to gather what rain you do get!

You know back when i lived in the UK, i can barely remember but i entered a competition and i won a massive water butt 100ltrs maybe i could persuade my mum to strap it to the roof when the drive out in the summer.

They are very "cheap and cheerful". So much so that I built an inner skin from 2By2 and put another layer of polycarb on the inner greenhouse. Double glazed if you like.
I also bought 200 extra W clips and went through 16 tubes of silicone putting the two together.
In all hnesty if I'd had the confidence to do so I'd have built one myself out of 4by2 in the first place and double skinned that.
You really are getting a budget greenhouse with budget quality aluminium uprights and fixings.

I have a couple of polycarbon ones as well as a glass one...
Definitely use some 2 by 1 or similar batons to help secure it to the wall...
And as others have said, use silicon when attaching panels..
Also I hope the instructions are clear; some of them can be a nightmare😬
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
