  • 5 reasons why

Many people are considering if greenhouse is useful. They may be asking themselves: "Isn't it better to grow plants open-air?", but I have some proofs that greenhouse is beneficial! Just look at that 5 simple advantages!
    1. Growing season is longer!
    2. You can keep your garden even in bad weather conditions!
    3. Growing many varieties of plants is easier, even exotic ones!
    4. Predators and pests attack your plants? Having greenhouse, forget about it!
    5. Enjoy growing plants that you love!
    Have you got a greenhouse?

I agree with all of the above, especially because I don't have a greenhouse.
However growing is still manageable outdoors too, it's just a bit risky that's all, but still great nonetheless
If I could I would definitely have a greenhouse or 3

Do you have a greenhouse, Mali52?
What do you grow in it?
Do you heat it in winter?

how do you stop the pests - ok, if your pests are deer then the lack of opposable thumbs can make it difficult dealing with locks and latches. But for slugs, greenfly, white fly, thrips, red spider mite?

For several pests the greenhouse creates ideal conditions to thrive - warmth, humidity, protection from birds. Greenhouses can also be a great place for moulds to grow due to less air circulation

You can also extend your growing season outside by selecting the right crops and by using cloches/row covers. Handy for crops that are going to grow for a long time or get big.

I have a greenhouse which is very useful for all the reasons mentioned above however the big negative this year is the heat. Whilst the chillis have gone mad the tomatoes have need extra tlc to keep them happy due to the heat. All that said wouldn’t be without a greenhouse

Reason 4 isn't entirely true! You are just as likely to get pests and diseases inside as you are out.

Greenhouse or polytunnel brilliant things. I wouldn't be without mine.

              We love our little greenhouse.
              But.
You need an automatic ventilator or have to open up each morning and close each evening.
You need to attend most days to water in the summer unless you have an automatic watering system.
You need to provide some shade to certain plants.
You might need to polinate by hand/interfere with the process.
You need to be particular about clearing away vegitation and ensuring no diseases can fester.
You need to be aware of how to feed/fertilise the plants (this also applies to outdoors to a lesser degree).

Wouldn't be without the greenhouse, but there is more work involved to get that intensive growing. Some years we have better harvests outdoors on the plot from the spare plants like peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers than we do from the best specimens placed in the greenhouse!
