    What to do with all the rainwater

    Hi
    Having filled up every possible butt, dustbin, trug etc with rainwater I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use plastic milk bottles - washed out of course. They would double as weights for fleece and enviromesh, reckon it would take about 30 litres worth to hold down the fleece round one raised bed. Do you think the water would be OK to use later in the year?

    Likely to be a bit icky I would have thought, exactly the way our cats seem to like it for some reason!

      Yes - why is it that my cat (grey fluffy Persian) much prefers to drink from the pond than from the bowl.

        I would think the water would be fine for watering the ground Sue. Doesn't seem to be any shortage of the stuff at the moment. As soon as we have a shower, the place is waterlogged, as the ground is just saturated.
        Don't want to hijack the thread, but when I had cats, they would only drink from running water - not from a bowl.

          Ours will only drink if it's seriously rancid with a good bit of algal growth if possible. Have been known to walk past the nice bowl of fresh stuff to drink from the pond!

                  The IBC's are brilliant Beefy, I get them from work and have 7 of them plus 4 blue barrels on two plots. Thats about 8ooo litres of stored rainwater just in case its needed.

                  I think the milk bottle idea is a runner, just use it on established plants not seedlings.

                    Thanks for the link Beefy, had been thinking how practical they looked when Piglet mentioned them on another thread. Even better if you can get them from work of course PW!

                      Gosh, just looked at the website you listed, some big tanks there. Don't quite know where I'd put one - could live in one by the looks of it - but have sent off for leaflets in case, will come in handy when I get my second allotment in the autumn, that doesnt have any waterbutts.
                      Meanwhile, I'll carry on with my plastic milk bottles as everyone seems to think the water will be OK.
                      My youngest cat Georgie has got me well trained to turn on the bathroom tap for her whenever she fancies a drink from running water, although yesterday in an overzealous race round she landed in the bath, not seeing it was filled up at the time, wet footprints everywhere.

                        Excellent link - as soon as I am up and running (next fortnight) I can see an order being placed - although no doubt will have to pay a hefty delivery charge for up here - everyone thinks the roads stop at Perth !!

                          I found a 300lt butt in a skip but its been too wet to take it up the plot.
