  • Water Saving.

Now that the no watering season is underway how about saving water for next year. As well as the obvious water butts, save water in empty plastic bottles. Excess water from full barrels, and water from the tap while waiting for hot water to appear . All of this can safely be stored around the plot waiting for the time when watering is required in earnest again. Bottles can then be recycled again either on the plot or in recycling bins.Save water and trips to the water supply if available on the plot,or garden.

I recently diverted the water from half my house roof into 3 210lt butts, what amazed me is that in 10 days they are all full. Most of that was from one down pour. I would think bottles would be a very fiddly way of doing it, I am sure there are plenty of second hand 25lt drums knocking about.

Luckily I live by the sea in Devon and the worst frost I have seen in 14 years was a quarter of an inch on the fish pond. If we had serious fost I would let the water out it will soon fill em up again.
